About Our Services

As a full scope family practice we provide the following services:

Pediatric Care –  Our physicians will follow your child from infant until they are adults. Routine health checks are done to monitor the growth and development of your child and to address any concerns that may arise. We refer out to our local Pediatricians for anything beyond our scope of care.Childhood Immunizations begin at 2 months of age and are done at the Duncan Health Unit (Margaret Moss Health Unit).

Youth and Adolescent Care – Youth experience unique health concerns with everything from acne to sexual health concerns. Mental health and addictions are important things to talk to your doctor about. Anxiety and depression are very common in this age group.  Our physicians are available to discuss these concerns. In addition there are also local Island Health Youth Clinics located both in the local high schools and at the Margaret Moss Health unit that provide confidential services to patients under 25 years of age that include education, counselling, resources and referrals on many topics important to youth. More information on the youth clinics can be found here.

Women’s Health – All of our physicians provide the following women’s health needs including contraception options, pap tests, breast examinations, menstrual bleeding disorder management, and guidance through the menopause years.  We counsel patients about the risks and benefits of appropriate screening for breast cancercervical cancer, and colon cancer. We also have some physicians that offer specialized services, including the insertion or removal of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD). All of our physicians are able to guide you through the pre-conception period but we no longer have any physicians who can follow you throughout your pregnancy and delivery.

Men’s Health – There are specific health concerns that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction. There are many other major health risks that men face, including colon cancer and heart disease that can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Our physicians can educate you on appropriate screening tests to detect diseases earlier when they are easier to treat.

Emergent/Urgent Care – We do have the facilities in our office to provide sutures and dress wounds, however if your injury requires imaging, it is best you go to a local emergency department where imaging can be done onsite. If you think you are having a heart attack or stroke, please call 911 or go straight to the emergency department as we do not have the facilities to do urgent bloodwork, EKGs, or X-rays. Please note, there is an urgent care clinic open daily in Chemainus and Ladysmith.

Sports Medicine – Dr. Harwood Reimer does have a special interest in sports medicine and works closely with some local sports teams. He is currently not accepting referrals for consultation in sports medicine outside of our clinic.

Seniors Health – Our physicians work with patients and families to help them navigate through the natural aging process, dementia care, and related difficulties that may arise. We provide not only direct medical care, but also knowledge of community resources, health administrative issues, interdisciplinary team work at various levels, residential care and more. More information can be found here.

Vaccinations – We carry Tetanus/diphtheria (due every 10 years) and Pneumococcal vaccine (indicated for everyone over 65 or with a chronic disease).  During the flu season, we do offer the influenza immunization through our clinic and you can talk to your doctor about this. The Vaccinate BC program will be recalling anyone enrolled to receive their flu shot this year and most pharmacies can now supply flu shots free for anyone over 6 months of age.  We can prescribe and administer further vaccines for Hepatitis and Shingles. Vaccinations for travel medicine can best be done at specialized travel clinics and should be organized at least 6 months prior to travel. More information on what vaccinations you may require for travel can be found here. You can discuss this further with your doctor.

Other Services – We do a wide range of minor procedures. Anything from syringing ears to treating warts with liquid nitrogen, to excising worrisome skin lesions and more. Our office also provides elective early infant circumcisions. Please contact our office for more information.
